Review-11-21-2013
I just recieved my "Exotic Wood Pyro-Steel" in Blue Flame Color. This tool is awsome firestarting tool. The handles look amazing. How did you get that look? I am a Marine stationed at Camp Legeune, NC. I used this in a survival training course and it worked flawlessly. I will keep this with my gear at all times. The fire rod is large and the scraper is very sharp. It is very well made and fits my hands perfectly. This thing produces a TON of sparks. I am telling all my friends. Thank you GaPyro

Nathan, US Marine Corps

Georgia Firesteels' produce an amazing amount of 3000 degree sparks.

Use cotton balls for tender. One scrape of sparks from a Georgia Firesteel will cause it to start burning. Thats Fast!

Our Scraper/Sparkers are 1/4" square High Speed Steel Tool Bits. Very Sharp

Our Scrapers are sharp enough to scrape wood to make tinder for fire starting

Using a GaPyro survival Firestarter and a High Speed Steel Scraper to light a fire.

There are two pieces of gear to use when starting a fire with a GaPyro firestarter. The first piece is the Oxidizing rod. This is the black rod . When cut with the edge of a quality high carbon steel striker it produces a large amount of 3000 degree sparks. The second is the Striker. This is a sharpened square ofM2-high speed steel. This is the best striker available bar none! This is used to cut down the rod. When this is performed, an enormous amount of 3000 + degree sparks are produced. The sparks are directed toward a flamable tender. Tender is very light wood shavings, cotton balls etc that will easily burn. When the sparks hit the tender, the sparks will ignite the tender and it will start to burn. At this time start adding progressively larger pieces of wood until the fire is burning steady.

1. Using the wood handle, hold the rod in one hand and point it toward and close to your tender.

2. Hold the Striker in the other hand by its wood handle.

3. If you notice the high speed steel blade of the striker has 4 edges. These along with the tip of the tool are VERY SHARP. So be careful!
Place one of the sharpened edges onto the firesteel rod at the point where the rod connects with its handle. Tilt the striker slightly forward so it is on one of the sharpened edges.

A. With a little pressure cut down the rod with the striker. This will produce sparks that will fly in the direction the rod is pointing.

(please note that all rods come with a black coating. This coating will need to be scraped off before sparks will form. Just use the scraper and scrape down the rod a few times to remove coating).

Fire making tinder can be any number of things that will burn. IE: ( wood shavings, dry grass, fluffy plant material, steel wool, etc)

Practice a few time to get the hang of it and how it works. Once you are familiar with the action, then direct it toward the tender. The tender will catch the sparks and start to burn.

TIP: Since the high speed steel striker blade tip is very sharp, it can be used to scrape down a piece of wood to produce very fine shavings. The fine shavings can be used for tender.

4. Start adding small pieces of wood fuel: (IE: pine straw, dry grass, wood small sticks, etc) to get the fire burning stronger.

5. Then add a little larger pieces of wood until they start to burn steady. The add larger and larger pieces of wood until the fire is burning hot.

That is all there is to it!
